Vanha Kauppala is an old residential area in Nurmes, which parts are Itäkaupunki and Puu-Nurmes. Puu-Nurmes is a well-preserved and fairly uniform, protected residential area, the oldest buildings of which date back to the 1880s. Itäkaupunki has a wide range of 1950s–1960s houses, which are type of detached house build after the Second World War for the families of soldiers who fought in the battlefront. The surroundings of the Vanha Kauppala are also unique, as it is partly located on a steep ridge surrounded by two lakes.
Vanha Kauppala Open Doors event will be held for the seventh time and it is organized by the Nurmes Vanha Kauppala Residents’ Association and the City of Nurmes.
